Several studies are discuss- ing developments in the Balkans, including a special study of developments in Kosovo and Bos- nia/Hercegovina. Two guest professors (Dusan Janjic, Belgrad and Håkan Wiberg, Copenhagen) where en- gaged for several months at LiU to participate in this area of research. Conflict management, social reconstruction, civil society, political economy: Jens Stilhoff Sörensen, PhD (LiU/EUI) Jens Sörensen has his PhD degree from European Uni- versity Institute in Florens (2006) 14 .His research project concerns ethno national conflicts and the issues of social restructuring in former Yugoslavia with focus on Serbia and Kosovo, particularly the aspects of democracy, civic agency, social movements and international develop- ment aid. Aleksandra Ålund and C U Schierup have been engaged as consultants for a project (2000-02) on social reconstruction, democracy and local citizenship in Mon- tenegro in cooperation with the Centre for Tolerance and Dialogue in Podgorica (financed by SIDA). Both projects have brought forward experience on the importance of local citizenship in the multiethnic post-communist coun- tries transformation and democratic development. Labour market, social exclusion and citizenship in Bosnia-Herzegovina; Branka Likic-Brboric,PhD, NIWL Likic-Brboric has researched post-communist political and economic transformation in the successor states of former Yugoslavia, mainly Slovenia and Bosnia-Herze- govina (Likic-Brboric 2003, 2006, and forthcoming). She has analysed the interplay between processes of democ- ratisation and economic restructuring with a special focus on the articulation of new ownership structures, emerging dualisation of the economy, ethnic segmentation of la- bour markets and the contingencies for social citizenship. She develops an heterodox institutional approach, in- cluding critical discourse analysis for comparative studies of institutional choices in the transition to market econ- omy in former socialist countries with emphasis on a historical perspective of path dependence that stresses the role political cultures in transformation processes. The main result concerns the importance of achieving legitimacy of economic reforms through an inclusive process of discursive structuration of meta-institutional choices, which in turn entails a redefinition of a common conception of justice. This has been proved in the case of Slovenian privatisation model.
