The seminar taught me to pay close attention to the actual domain email rather than skimming through. Bridgewater stated an example that an email showing [email protected] ” wouldn’t be a real Google worker as it would be addressed as the following, “ [email protected] Google.com ”. He explains in detail that this is just one of the many ways Malware presents itself as “90% of the internet is made up of the dark

web”. It was suggested that to prevent or more so limit the amounts of cyber threat attempts, a “VPN” should be used to hinder any breach of personal info being leaked or stolen. Bridgewater then went into severity of cyber-attacks as for 2019 alone he provided statistics of major cooperation’s that were currently being attacked as we sat presently in the seminar. Expressing that hackers aim to breach into systems that would provide personal information such as credit numbers, documents, etc. Thus, these mega cooperation’s affected include Target with 70 million attacks, Yahoo with 22 million attacks, and Facebook with 6 million attacks. Bridgewater brought to our attention the risk of using Facebook on open WIFI’s as the accounts can be easily breached by the owner of the Wi-Fi source, backing up his defense stating, “not everything free is good”. Harmlessly, I was unaware of how silly it was for myself to connect my personal devices to free hotspots from different random locations such as Starbucks, Mc Donald’s, Neighbor’s, and so on. As this is one of the easiest ways to place your sensitive information at risk to being either leaked, stolen or misrepresented. All this however, could be avoided by having basic knowledge on Cyber Security. Yet, what does it really protect you against? Bridgewater discusses that it protects against Unauthorized Modification, Unauthorized Deletion, and Unauthorized Accesses.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
