In moderation, the consumption of alcohol is fine. However, if a person is not educated on the risk factors and possible issues that can arise when consuming alcohol, they are much more likely to abuse it Marketing : The marketing of alcohol is anywhere and everywhere. The most expensive event to purchase ad space for is the Super Bowl. Yet, a person who watches the Super Bowl will be inundated with ads about alcohol. Most marketers say word of mouth is the most effective way to market any product, and people talk about drinking to co-workers, family, friends, and post on social media about drinking alcohol.
ALLEVIATING ALCOHOL ABUSE • EARLY EDUCATION • IDENTIFYING EARLY RISK FACTORS BOTH SOCIALLY AND MENTALLY • DON’T STOCK IT IN YOUR HOUSE LIKE YOU WOULD GROCERIES. • DON’T DRINK WHEN YOU ARE EMOTIONAL OR USE ALCOHOL TO SELF MEDICATE • REMOVE YOURSELF FROM TRIGGERS THAT WOULD CAUSE YOU TO WANT TO DRINK IN EXCESS. • ATTEND AA MEETINGS.
WHAT PERPETUATES ALCOHOL ABUSE? SOCIAL INTERACTIONIST IS BASED ON THE THOUGHT THAT HUMAN INTERACTIONS IN THEIR SOCIETY IS TO FULFILL MEANING IN EVERY PERSON. I BELIEVE THE INSPIRATION FOR THE SI THEORY IS THAT PEOPLE CAN BE UNDERSTOOD IN PRACTICAL AND INTERACTIVE/SOCIAL RELATIONS WITHIN THEIR ENVIRONMENT. (BLUMER, 1969). SI THEORISTS LOOK FOR SIGNS AND CERTAIN MEANINGS THAT MAY BE ATTACHED TO A PERSON’S REASON FOR A BEHAVIOR. IN THE CASE OF ALCOHOL ABUSE, I BELIEVE SI THEORISTS WOULD CONSIDER THAT THE MEANING BEHIND SUBSTANCE ABUSE, THAT INCLUDES ALCOHOL, BEGINS WITH SOCIAL CONSTRUCT OF THE DISEASE. THE CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL IS PROMOTED IN ALL FORMS OF MEDIA AND GENERALLY SENDS THE MESSAGE THAT (1) IT BRINGS FRIENDS AND PEOPLE TOGETHER (2) AFTER A LONG WEEK OR DAY THAT IT IS THE KEY TO RELAXATION BOTH MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY AND (3) IF ENJOYED RESPONSIBLY THERE ISN’T AN ISSUE WITH SOMEONE DRINKING. WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS MESSAGE? I CAN BREAK THIS DOWN FOR ANYONE IN A VERY EASY TO UNDERSTAND WAY. BECAUSE ALCOHOLISM CAN BE SO LOOSELY DEFINED AND LEFT UP TO INTERPRETATION FOR EACH PERSON THEN EACH INDIVIDUAL CAN JUSTIFY WHY THEY ARE OR ARE NOT AN ABUSER OF ALCOHOL. WHAT DOES IT REALLY MEAN TO ENJOY RESPONSIBLY?
