ethical considerations should be made and humans should not be subjected to danger. Human trials should be preceded by animal tests. Animals are also beneficiaries of the research since there are a number of vaccines that have been tested and used in animal treatment as well. For instance, vaccines for rabies, anthrax and tetanus, hepatitis B virus stated by Blumberg (pg. 7121) . Some of the treatments for animals developed as a result of animal testing are pacemakers for heart diseases, glaucoma and hip dysplasia. According to Wolfensohn et al , scientists carry out research observing high regulations meant to protect animals from mistreatment as required by the law. Another factor that opponents fail to consider is life cycle, animals such as mice have shorter life cycles giving scientists time to study the effects of treatments or genetic manipulation across generations. This is infeasible when using humans .According to Preece , Rod and David (pg. 246) religious traditions state that man has dominion over all animals allowing animal experimentation as long as they are not inflicted to pain for the benefit man. This also shows that animals do not have rights and it is acceptable to experiment on them. Most importantly, the support of many biologists and several large biomedical and health organizations in the U.K makes it easy for animal testing to thrive.

Surname 5 The opponents term the idea of animal testing as cruel, unreliable, dangerous and unethical and ineffective as stated by Perlo. For instance, animals do not contract most of the human diseases such as heart diseases, cancer, HIV/AIDS, Parkinson’s disease or Schizophrenia etc. Scientists induce signs of various diseases artificially in laboratories to mimic human diseases. This experiments undermine the complexity of human conditions such as genetic factors, socio-economic factors, psychological issues and personal life experiences. At times treatments that seem promising in animals fail to work on humans. According to Rice (pg. 12), approximately, 95% of drugs fail in humans despite being promising in animals. And out of 93 dangerous drug side effects a very small percentage can be predicted through animal tests (19%).Use of mice only proves a 43 % accuracy. For instance after many years of research on cancer, diabetes, AIDS and Parkinson’s there are no reliable and fully effective cures. Dr. Richard Klaussner, a former director of the national cancer institute talks of curing mice of cancer for decades, an experiment that didn’t work in humans. Only a third of substances that cause cancer in humans cause cancer in animals. Animal life is wasted alongside suffering and big budgets to cater for the experiments. According to Taylor, over 115 million animals are used globally with U.K among the top three countries using animal experiments. Out of these experiments conducted, only 25 new medicines are approved yearly by the drug regulator having spent billions of money on research. Some of these drugs become fully effective after 2 decades.
