Ghulam System A ghulam was a slave (by definition, a non-Muslim) educated and trained for  state service. They were easily bribed because they had no incentives. Only a minority of the upper class could be called "true" Ottomans To be an Ottoman one had to serve the state and the religion and know the  "Ottoman Way." Being an Ottoman meant being fully trained in Arabic, Persian, and Turkish. Non-Muslims could become true Ottomans if they spoke the language and  served the state. Turkish art, silk, and rugs were in great demands. Sufi was known for it's poetry, music, and art. Mughal Empire

The Mughal Empire was founded in 1526 by Babur, a Central Asian Turk. Babur conquered the northern Indian Subcontinent. Emperors expanded the empire. Jahanjir (1605-1627) The Mughal's never conquered India totally. Shah Jahan (1628-1658) The more south they went, the more resistance they encountered. The English arrived in 1608 and by 1616, they had set up factories in India. As Mughal power waned, English power increased.
