always ways to deal with students, build rapport and overcome any difference. Reflecting on theterm and the case studies presented I found them to be enlighten. I also need to focus on gettingcommunity and family involvement. In order to understand the learners, I need to understandtheir community and families. Understanding the students, I must understand the culturaldifferences, utilize what I learn about the students to provide an environment that embraces alldifferences.According to Nieto this a major characteristic of effective multicultural education(Laureate, 2015). Once I learn to improve my relationship with my students and their familiesthen I can begin to improve my classroom practices and lesson plans. Teaching diverse set ofstudents is not an easy task especially with different cultural backgrounds, beliefs and trying tomake sure all student’s feel included. There are many differences within diverse learningenvironment and as an educator I must learn to not only embrace those differences but make suremy students know that no matter their background I am not bias toward them and their diversebackground but embrace their differences and encourage their uniqueness.3
Diversity ProjectSmart GoalsMy Goal is to help students who are considered English Language Learners (ELL)achieve the same standard as English-speaking students. As a child growing up and coming toAmerica from another country I was considered an ELL learner as my accent was very thick andalthough I spoke English I would often confuse words in my dialect when English wordstherefore confusing my teacher and my classmates. English Language Learners have to worktwice as hard to maintain their grades especially when there are no resources available to them tohelp foster growth and give them the opportunity to get the same learning experience as theirpeers. My goal is the findspecific resources that can help to foster, enhance and provide assistance to ELL learners who arein school zones that have limited number of teachers to help instruct them. I want to collaborateand use my PLC to help build a community of educators who can provide assistance to oneanother and share resources. For these goals to be achieved I have to make sure that they aremeasurable, mutual and help build strategies that can motivate a desire outcome. This can beachieved by monitoring the students who are ELL, track their progress by keep a log ofassignment and the area of need.I will use my PLC to collaborate with my colleagues to build on student achievementsand to establish a curriculum that can be used for ELL and non-ELL students. I want to use allresource available to me to also help students whose parents do not speak English and set up anight once a month where Parents can come in with their children to get help. This night will alsohelp with parent-teacher conferences and community outreach.I understand that this goal willtake some time with proper planning, execution and community participation this goal canbecome realistic. By having the community involvement this will show parents that not only are4
