facilitate change; Architectures that allows interoperability; Architectures that allow exchange ofinformation; Architectures that comply with the privacy laws; Architectures that reflects thestrategic plan of the Agency; EAs that coordinate technical investments while also encouragingchoosing of technologies that are proven; Architectures that reduces the burden of the datacollection process, streamline the storage of data, and enhance the access of data; targetarchitectures that controls the diversity of technical growth (Schekkerman, 2004).FEAF’s structure has 8 major components. The 8 components are Architecture Drivers,Strategic Direction, Current Architecture, Target Architecture, Transitional Processes,Architectural Segments, Architectural Models, and Standards. Architecture Drivers describes thefactors and conditions that can cause a change in business scenario or on the targeted design withprogress in time. Strategic Direction holds the vision and strategic plan of the intendedarchitecture. Current Architecture defines the current situation of the enterprise architecture and
ENTERPRISE ARCHITECTURE FRAMEWORK5it has the existing solutions to the challenges facing the organization at the moment. TargetArchitecture describes the expected to be scenario of the enterprise architecture and hasimproved architecture and the performance. Transitional processes describe the steps in themigration from the current to the target architecture. Architectural Segments consist ofcrosscutting business sections. Finally, the Standards component of FEAF is the standards, bestpractices, and guidelines (In Cretu, 2014).Strengths and Weaknesses of FEAFFEAF’s strongest strength occurs in the Reference-model guidance. FEAF offers supportin building relevant set of reference models. FEAF is also good in offering partitioning guidance.Partitioning guidance is important in the generation of an Enterprise Architecture because ithelps in managing the complexities in the Enterprise Architecture. FEAF is one of the bestframeworks in offering partitioning guidance. FEAF also has a huge strength in prescriptivecatalogue. This means that FEAF provides good guidance when establishing a catalogue ofassets that have reusability properties in the future. The final strength of FEAF is in thegovernance guidance. Governance guidance can be defined as the extent to which a methodologycan help in understanding and creation of an efficient governance model for EA. FEAF is verygood at that (Sessions, 2007).
