With this information she could live a life just like

This preview shows page 3 - 4 out of 4 pages.

Suzanne has a 50% chance of having this gene mutation. With this information, she could live a life just like Karen’s. This life entails gradual memory loss, around the clock care, and eventually living in a nursing home. This decision to get the testing or not is so hard on Suzanne and David because they already know that there is no cure. There is medically nothing that they can do to help Suzanne get better if she has this gene mutation. However, if testing is done and Suzanne has the gene, there social life will change. She will start to forget her loved ones and surroundings. David will have to take care of her until she is put into a nursing home. As for her children, if Suzanne has the mutation, they now have a chance of getting EOFAD. Also, David and Suzanne need to see if their insurance company cover this testing because out-of-pocket pay can get very expensive which will put a damper on their marriage. Another scenario if Suzanne has the mutation is the risk of her getting fired for having this disease. If she is forgetting valuable information or does not know how to interpret the results of genetic testing, she can no longer be a genetic counselor. All in all, if Suzanne has this gene mutation, her life and those around her are dramatically impacted.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
