Research Strategy This study will use a mixed research strategy. That is to say, both qualitative and quantitative research strategies will collectively be used or the purposes of ensuring that the study outcomes are both valid and reliable. Qualitative strategy is a research strategy based on an interpretivist paradigm which calls for analysis of a phenomenon using non-statistical means and procedures (Creswell, 2013). The research strategy entails in-depth examination of a phenomenon and circumstances surrounding the phenomenon using non-numerical data. This study examined the market circumstances of China and internal environment within Tesla, with a view to evaluating market entry options. The data the researcher anticipates on market entry options are largely non-numerical, making qualitative approach a suitable than quantitative research design. Quantitative strategy on the other side is premised on a positivist paradigm which argues that a phenomenon is better understood in its statistical sense and thus should be analysed the using statistical methods and methodologies (Hussein, 2015). In contrast to qualitative strategy, quantitative research uses statistical approaches and numerically expressed data to make findings. For the case of this study, both strategies are seen as necessary and will thus be used together. While qualitative approach will be key in understanding how a strategy can be helpful for Tesla’s entry into the Chinese market, quantitative aspects will be vital is evaluating to what extent that strategy will be helpful. It is based on this ground that a mixed- research strategy was adopted. 6.2 Data Collection Both primary and secondary data will be collected and used in this study. It is figured out that while primary data will be important in informing the contemporary situation in the Chinese market and which market strategy are considered beneficial in facilitating Tesla’s entry into the Chinese market with reference to these contemporary market conditions, secondary data will also be important in giving an overview of how other MNCs in the automobile and energy industry have manoeuvred their ways into the Chinese market (including what market entry strategies they used, how and to what extent did the strategies were deemed helpful). Primary data will be collected via unstructured questionnaires while secondary data will be sourced from journals, company websites and industry reports. Questionnaires are considered
