synthesis and insertion of more of those channels Stimulates the synthesis and insertion of more Na/KATPase pumps in the basolateral  membrane This will lower the Na concentration in the apical membrane which will increase  reabsorption and K secretion Renin converts angiotensinogen to AngI, then that’s converted by ACE to ANgII, then  that goes to the adrenal cortex and releases aldosterone In the dorsal tubule at the JGA, when a decrease in Na concentration, renin secretion  will increase Regulation of Potassium The control of urinary potassium excretion is the major mechanism regulating plasma K K is freely filtered in the glomerulus Normally the proximal tubule and loop of Henel reabsorb most of the filtered K+ so little  is exceted in the urine Most of the filtered potassium is taken up here and it is essentially cleared Very little left in the filtrate However the cortical CD can secrete potassium, changes in K excretion rate are due to  changes in the rate of secretion by this section of the tubule Rate of secretion back into the tubule Highly regulated pathway During K depletion, there is no secretion by the cortical collecting ducts and excretion is  minimal The pathways above does not happen K secretion only occurs in the cortical CD (only regiosn of the tbule with cannels in  luminal epithelium)

Mechanisms affecting K secretion  Increase in K uptake by NAK pump when the plasma K increases, because it makes the  electrochemical gradient more favorable The second mechanism link plasma K to K secretion and plasma K balance is  aldosterone secretion by adrenal corte Different from RAA mechanism for Na regulation The aldoserione secreting cells are sensitive to K in the ECF and respond to an  increase in plasma K by secreting aldosterone Joint regulation of Na and K

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
