Considering that the focal point for Amazon’s business is based off it’s online functionality, information systems are crucial in its survival. Amazon has existing information systems that support sales, marketing, accounting, and human resources. Amazon has been a household name for the better part of the last decade due to their advances in the market place. Their most recent advancement in technology is Alexa, a voice-controlled device that is directly linked to the user’s personal Amazon account. Alexa has become a household item that has replaced radios, by using music-based applications, and has somewhat made utilizing their website not as necessary by the customer’s account being linked to the device. Amazon’s human resourcing has been ahead of the curve, in my opinion, by creating an online marketplace. The lack of face to face interaction with a virtual market allows specialists to handle customer complaints and issues with orders. Information Technology Recommendation Being one of the primary online marketplaces does not happen overnight. Amazon has built a vast inventory and supply chain, which is backed a multitude of fine tuned internal information systems, that has propelled their business to the top. With all of these gears turning in their fine- tuned machine of a business, one of their major short comings is with their third-party shipping services. Recent results have stirred a small uproar from Amazon Prime members, costing them customers, mainly due to not upholding a 2-day shipping bargain (Green, 2018). Amazon has avoided creating their own world-wide shipping services due to multiple reasons, including the cost, employment, insurance, and liabilities.
