WE rely on information presented to us from others Books, textbooks, magazines, newspapers, radio talk shows, hosts, analysts, teachers, world travelers, family, friends, tweets, blogs, facebook, etc. Information is produced by people which therefore creates bias Everyone has different takes and bias on any situation or events Must understand the bias in order to make a true opinion for yourself Approaches –two major camps of thought Liberal Left Leftist gorilla group in Columbia Liberate or free everything, ourselves from static tradition, want to change the old ways Free economic and political power up for everyone to share Maybe the good ol’ days weren’t that good, or not good for everybody New things should be incorporated (technology) Incorporate new scientific knowledge, facts, and want to make new solutions and embrace change Respect the rights and liberties of individual society above all thingsUse experiences of modern world to change and shape the world of today Pro choice, individualism, universal suffrage Equal rights, equal pay, voice for everyone Strong central gov that strives to make all this equal for all its citizens Unemployment insurance, education Pro labor and anti big business Anti establishment, corporate, anti- the man Poor folks, minorities, actors, hippies, young kids who think they can change the world, college professors too Conservative Right

Keep the same, conserve tradition, political and economic power Very old school and old ways –do not embrace change Good ol’ days, everything was better, maintain the traditions of the forefathers Go to historical text and documents to seek advisement and apply to today All about preserving tradition, societal structures and stability over all things Strong central government in its capacity to maintain that order Pro military, police, law and order Pro big business Pro religion in all facets in private and public life for structure and family values Goes from extreme far left to extreme far right –many in between Centrists are dead center in the middle of this spectrum Specific Instances Religiously –Left vs right (Women as priest) Conservatives – NO Liberals – YES Economically – Taxes and heavy regulation on business and corporations Conservatives – NO Liberals – YES Politically –Change to the Constitution Conservatives – NO Liberals – YES The Patriot Act –gov. spying on its own citizens to root out terrorists
