fly traps can count the number of taps from a bug before it entraps it. But, plants do these things with very different equipment than animals. Taiz and he colleagues point out methodological flaws in the studies that agree with plant neurology. Tiaz’s team argues that it really does not make sense from an evolutionary point of view. Animals brain and nervous system has evolved overtime to eat and avoid being eaten. Why would a plant need that complex of a nervous system with such a sedentary life

style. They do not require the nervous system to outwit predators or have a fight or flight response. The energy it takes to maintain consciousness would far outweigh the benefit of having it for a plant. If a plant worried when presented with a threat it wouldn’t have energy to do something about the threat. A forest fire is a great example of how it would be costly for a plants to have consciousness. Imagine the trauma from burning to ashes and watching their offspring burn in front of them. Plants help sustain most life on earth by creating compounds we have to have to survive, like oxygen, without being conscious. Taiz feels like that should be enough to ask from plants. This study kind of seems like a waste of time. I mean yes I could see how uneducated people could think some plants could have a more complex nervous system than we suspected. However, We have been studying botany for centuries and we already knew that was incorrect. And I kind of agree with Taiz what would the purpose of a plant having consciousness be? They already manage to produce so many things that are essential to us, reproduce, and self sustain without a complex nervous system or sense of consciousness. Plant neurology, in my opinion, was a real stretch for biologist. - argues

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
