-The alpha decay process changes the mass of the atom, and the beta decay process changes the chemical identity of the atom (not necessarily the mass). The half-life for both of these events describes the amount of time it takes for half of the sample to radioactively decay. About how long is Uranium-238’s half-life? -About 4.5 Billion Years. 2) Into what atom does Uranium-238 decay? -Lead-206 3) How many protons does U-238 have? How many neutrons?
