defining national greatness some good people, some bad in every country but Russia has progressed out of a time of darkness great cultural progression We cannot understand the idea of living under total despotism we will not accomplish anything if we resent the Russians part five what do we do if there continues to be this “cold” war state –tension, no action? can we hope for changes in Russia? no stability in a system built upon weakness of man this system they have now is based upon a generation of sad and angry men they cannot completely pass down their hardship must keep faith that Russians will eventually refuse to live in their current state any longer no change will come about from foreign influence – must be w/in Russian people the most important thing we can do is provide an example “no iron curtain could suppress, even in the innermost depths of Siberia, the news that America has shed the shackles of disunity, confusion, and doubt, had taken a new lease of hope and determination, and was setting about her tasks with enthusiasm and clarity of purpose” (pg 154)
