Also, keep in mind that a re-grade request may result in the re- grading of the entire assignment which could result in additional points being taken away, as well as points being added back. No "extra credit" assignments will be given . All grades will be based on the grading criteria established in this syllabus. Do not make any requests for policy exceptions in front of other students. In the interest of equity and in order to avoid a flood of similar requests from other students, I will be forced to deny your request in such circumstances, regardless of its merits. This includes, but is not limited to: requesting additional time for assignments, rescheduling exams, reasons for turning in assignments late in class. These and similar concerns should be discussed privately. If a matter is important enough for you to ask for an exemption then it should warrant a visit to me during office hours or a scheduled appointment time or even an e-mail or phone call. HONOR SYSTEM: The Virginia Tech Honor Code will be strictly enforced in this course. All assignments and all aspects of your coursework shall be subject to the stipulations of the Honor Code. For more information on the Honor Code, please refer to the Honor System Constitution. Any suspected violations of the Honor Code will be promptly reported to the Honor System. The faculty and students of Virginia Tech will not tolerate any form of academic dishonesty. All assignments and exams are to be completed individually unless specifically stated otherwise. All communications about assignments with any other individuals besides your instructor are considered a violation of the honor code. EXAMS: Exams are intended to measure your understanding of the topic areas and subject matter in the field being studied. Your ability to solve problems similar to those found in the text represents

only a small, but important, portion of this understanding. Concepts and theories are an integral part of your education. When you are working in business and industry, you will rarely encounter problems presented precisely as they are in class or in the textbook. Therefore, the ability to transfer knowledge is essential. This ability is tested on exams and projects. In addition to demonstrating a level of knowledge comparable to textbook type problems, you will need to understand the relationships underlying the course material for you to score well on the exams.
