Abigail hands Tituba a sack over the cauldron. Tituba removes a chicken from the sack, and holding it by the feet she begins to swing it around in a circle. The girls laugh and sway as Tituba chants in an unknown language. The girls are yelling what boys they want to love them. Abigail says nothing. MARY WARREN Who do you want Abigail? MERCY LEWIS She wants John Proctor! Girls start laughing and running around the cauldron as Tituba continues to chant and hold the now dead chicken. Abigail whispers something in Tituba’s ear. (CONTINUED)

(CONTINUED) 2. TITUBA No Abby! That be a bad thing! Abby snatches the chicken away from Tituba and snaps its neck. she smears the chicken blood on her face and the girls start screaming as well as laughing and some start stripping out of their clothes. They all dance around the cauldron. They see Reverend Parris approaching in the distance. GIRLS It’s the minister! Run! the girls all split up and run in opposite directions. Betty injures herself in the escape. Reverend Parris examines the now empty scene and picks up the large wooden spoon that was being used to stir the cauldron and finds the toad. He is startled and drops the spoon suddenly.
