Another source for identifying entities is to study forms, files, and reports generated by the current system. In an ER model, an entity is represented as a rectangle containing the name of the entity. The names of attributes are enclosed in an oval connected to the rectangle of the entity they describe. Attributes may be omitted from the diagram to avoid cluttering it and also in the early stages of development. Relationships are represented by diamonds between entities. The notationof the ERD, however, varies according to the modeling approach used in an ERM diagram, an entity type is represented as a rectangle containing the name. In this step entities are written in rectangles and relationships are on diamond or line segments and connect the entities.Find Relationships Relationships are sets of associations that exists between one or more entities. It symbolizes the link between entities and/or entity types. A relationship instance is an ordered pair consisting of particular related entities.

A role name indicates the purpose of an entity in a relationship. A relationship can also have attributes. Each row and column should have at least one relationship listed or else the entity associated with that row or column does not interact with the rest of the system. Cardinality is a constraint that is a representation of a relation presenting number of instances of one entity related to number of instances of another entity. Simply it is the bond between the entities in terms of numbers. on the relationship between two entities. Specifically, the cardinality constraint expresses the maximum number of entities that can be associated with another entity via a relationship. Modality refers to the minimum number of times an instance in one entity can be associated with an instance in the related entity. Participation is also a relationship constraint. Participation expresses the minimumnumber of entities that can be associated with another entity via a relationship. There aretwo values for participation mandatory participation and optional participation. If every instance of an entity must participate in a given relationship, then that entity has total participation in the relationship. But if every instance need not participate in a given relationship then the participation of that entity in the relationship is optional. There are mainly four cardinality or constraint relationships which are one and only one, one or more, zero or more, zero or one.
