Although some high school teachers aren’t completely qualified to teach, they are still required to follow a curriculum which enforces the learning of the subject. Lastly, although High school doesn’t completely encompass the rules of the “outside world”, it gives the students a general sense of responsibility to turn in assignments and get good grades almost like a job, and it takes away time from children to do stupid things and get in trouble. In the paper, The Liberal Arts in an Age of Info-Glut (1998), Todd Gitlin claims that the study of Liberal arts is more important now than ever in a society formed around different types of media. Gitlin supports his claim using persuasive language to teach the reader that liberal arts can help shape our interpretation of knowledge in the era of mass media. The authors purpose of this writing is to show the effect of mass media within society in order to prove to the reader that liberal arts are vital in a student’s education to deepen their knowledge on varying topics. The audience could range anywhere from someone who is looking at the effects of media on adolescent brains to someone who is studying the vitality of cultural necessities. It is important for students to learn Liberal arts to show them what is right from what is wrong. In a time when there are so many different sources of opinions people must be able to understand what is important and not be gullible to immediately agreeing with anything they see or are told.
