5. What further needs does Kenneth Bronson have at the end of the scenario that future nursing care should address? a. Kenneth Bronson needs to have education regarding his new documented allergy, education on how to self administer epi with a rescue pen. Education on antibiotics he is now to avoid with his allergy. Reassessment of viable antibiotics to treat pneumonia, reassessment of vitals to ensure return to baseline. 6. Reflect on how you would communicate with family members in an emergency situation if they were present at the bedside. a. I would express to the client’s family what the situation is, what is going to be expected, why I raised the head of the bed, why I contacted the provider with concern, and administered medication as ordered. I will try to stay in a calm voice and reassure the family that I am doing all I can to help their loved one, if they become too disruptive I would request a nurse, CNA, or tech to come and assist me with calming the family and relaying information to them to keep them informed about their family member’s care. 7. After completing the simulation and reflecting on your experience, what would you do differently (or the same) for the patient experiencing acute respiratory distress? a. I failed to discontinue the infusion therapy initially. This kept exposing the client to the source of allergen. I would continue to be vigilant and assess all aspects of the client regardless of the simple presentation of pneumonia in the right lower lobe. I will continue to ensure that there is not something that we miss because we overlooked it during the assessment. I didn’t administer the ranitidine as ordered, because It was not indicated as a time now medication as I felt the stat and one push medications were. 8. How could you prepare for clinical in order to plan ahead for potential patient emergencies? a. I would ensure I knew emergency protocols for the unit, identify where the crash/code/and emergency carts are to ensure I am as efficient with my movements as possible. I would always ensure to ask about any known allergies before administering any medications, trying to ensure that I follow best practice instead of relying solely on report given at hand off. © Wolters Kluwer Health | Lippincott Williams & Wilkins
