Topic 4 DQ 1 In the past I’ve volunteered my time at an elementary specifically working with children in the special education classroom. There was only one special education classroom which children grades 1-5 spent the majority of their time in. Due to the wide range of autism there was a child in 5th grade who are non-verbal and could barely write her name. While a set of twins could do complex math equations, but once fixated on something funny, like a picture turned upside down had a difficult time getting back on track. At times when upset there would be a child who would tear the classroom apart causing the whole class to pause until the tantrum passed or the child could safely be removed from the classroom without hurting themselves or others around them. The teacher had to think of several individual lesson plans to meet each of the educational children’s needs, deal with the possible daily outburst, and attempt to stay on track. As I stated before the children spent most of their time in the special education classroom a specific times throughout the day they were integrated into other classes with the majority of the other students. Classes like art, music, gym, they also participate in recess and lunch with the majority of other children as well. The inclusion model although loosely used in the particular school I volunteered at needed work. I could
