Judgement This art work today would not be considered true art. This piece of art is either important for its time period or its message. It could cause the audience to become aware of certain things happening socially in the world but does directly apply any message in today. For the time period however, this painting must have been groundbreaking with its colors and patterns. This work could have much greater benefit for someone else for instance someone in another country and society or someone of another gender that sees this message much more influencing and personal in their life. The fact that she is a female already generates a huge message because of the precise decisions chosen to display this huge message. However, I do not feel the principal that others might as the painting had a lot more room to occupy and did not. The art work could have been more enhanced if it used more direct messaging if it did not leave an artist statement for the audience to understand. The artist used its elements well besides the space the artist did not occupy. I do not know why but the artist created this woman with a unibrow with a poor face and skin complexion possibly to send an unappealing message of the women at the time. But for women studying history and reflecting on the past it could mean a lot more to the seeing how their sex has evolved through art over the years. Overall, I would have to say that the artwork now is just okay. For 1700 the artwork of course is looked upon much more favorably back then but if it were judged by todays standards it definitely fell short in a lot of areas such as lacking expression and a clear message.
