3.3 Time frame Time frame for the research thesis started from the beginning of the degree, when students were getting to know the schools library and acquainted with the theories and modules learned. The process of gathering information started subconsciously even before the thesis task hand out. More in depth data collection was done on the 6th semester of the study, during the internship, where objectives and learning goals were set. The whole 7th and last semester was given to prepare the thesis plan, write the draft and hand in the complete final draft. 3.4 Research approach and strategy In this study, the deductive approach of reasoning was used. This approach is used to reach a logical conclusion. The approach is concerned with “developing a hypothesis 48 based on existing theory and then designing a research strategy to test the hypothesis”. It has been stated that “deductive means reasoning from the particular to the general. If a causal relationship or link seems to be implied by a particular theory or case example, it might be true in many cases. A deductive design might test to see if this relationship or 49 link did obtain on more general circumstances”. Deductive approach can be explained by the means of hypotheses, which can be derived from the suggestion of the theory. In other words, deductive approach is concerned with 50 deducting conclusions from premises. There are some advantages to this approach, comparing it to the inductive approach, it has the possibility to measure concepts quantitatively and is preferred to avoid risk. most likely to succeed, however when considering the inductive approach, risk is valid. Using the inductive approach the theory might not emerge at all. Applying the deductive approach can be explained through a chart below. Figure - Deductive process in research approach 3.5 Methods of research Applied or action research was preferred to work with on this thesis as opposed to the fundamental, or basic research. Research to identify social, economic or political trends that may affect a particular institution or the copy research (research to find out whether certain communications will be read and understood) or the marketing research or evaluation research are examples of applied research. This means that the central aim of applied research is to discover a 51 solution for some pressing practical problem, whereas basic research is directed towards finding information that has a broad base of applications.
