At the special care baby unit where I work evidenced based practiced is widely used through the implementation of protocols to guide nursing care. These protocols are based on research methods and guidelines and are also reviewed approximately every two years. Some skills practiced that are evidenced based include; placement of nasogastric tube, management of tachypnea of the new born, neonatal jaundice, management of infants with cardiac conditions and respiratory distress syndrome.
