Health in Orem’s theory is viewed as a responsibility of society in all. Orem’s theory related to health also states that healthy people should have sufficient self-care abilities to meet his or her own self- care needs

HOW THE SELF-CARE THEORY REFLECTS THE METAPARADIGM OF NURSING ENVIROMENT: Orem viewed this concept as an integrated system with the man concept. Orem believed that the environment could negatively or positively affect a persons self-care ability. Conditions which are conducive for self-care : opportunities to be helped like being with other people or groups where care is offered even if it is just for companionship.

HOW THE SELF-CARE THEORY REFLECTS THE METAPARADIGM OF NURSING NURSING: Orem’s view of the nursing concept consist of actions performed by nurses to help patients maintain or better change conditions in themselves or their environment. Orem views nursing as an art, community service, and as a technology. Nursing as a service to Orem is viewed as an interpersonal process because it requires social interaction of nurse and patient. Nursing as an art to Orem is an intellectual aspect. Nurses have to think critically and plan and organize a patients care Nursing as a technology to Orem is techniques of nursing must be learned. Skill and expertness in their use must be developed by nurses who purse nursing as a career.

Step 1-Nursing Diagnosis and Prescription In this phase, the nurse collects data in 6 areas: -The person’s health status -The physician’s perspective of the persons health. -The person’s perspective of his health. -The health goals within the context of life history, lifestyle, and health status. -The person’s requirements for self care. -The person’s capacity to perform self care .
