work in the name of conservation doing things like planting trees and worked on wetlands It was designed to help families b/c the older boys would work and use some of the money on themselves and the rest would be sent to their fams Social Security was invented in 1935; Roosevelt would make government jobs and here SS is just welfare which is just relief and pretty radical for the time; SS was originally created for the elderly b/c they could not work and dependent children (who had lost parents) 3. Opposition The political right opposed the New Deal; they thought that it was leading US down the road to Socialist The political far left complained; they viewed what Roosevelt was doing as conservative b/c it was doing just enough to preserve capitalism; they want capitalism out The Supreme Court was a form of opposition NRA (National Recovery Association)- Supreme court shot this down but it wasn’t working anyway so no one cared AAA (Agricultural *** Association)- ticked people off b/c Supreme Court struck this down and it was actually working; southerners were benefiting… Huey Long was Roosevelt’s biggest opponent b/c he had a very simple explanation for why the Depression happened and a simple solution and he started to gain support; he said that the economy was like a buffet table, there was all this wealth and when the industrialization was happening a few people came and took it all! Becomes known as the Court Packing Plan - He gets burned with an economic recession; a depressed economy that has a dip in it; 1937- 38 Roosevelt was spending a lot of money and now he is getting nervous so he cuts back on

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
