analogous to bad art that declares itself ‘profound’ or ‘moving’ not by displaying its own intrinsic value but by borrowing these values from elsewhere” (Dutton 2). Academic writing has lost most of its flavor because it is shifting from being about captivating readers while educating to just educating and bland. It belongs in the agree category because he believes that writing has become incredibly bland and lacks any elegance. When reading certain author’s works, they just seem bland and uninteresting. I don’t know why but reading Beowulf was just so boring to me. I dreaded reading it. When it came to writing a paper on it, I was so lost. Textbooks are a real example as well.

Coming from Haiti with no English. School was hard because everything was written in a language I did not even know. This means, I had to do double the work in a lot of thing. Everything was so foreign to me in the beginning. The dictionary was my best friend. Seeing my peers strive in their work made me want to work hard to reach their levels. Therefore, I put in twice the work in everything. I totally agree with Villanueva, he believes that teachers should help their students understand difficult materials. I usually go to my teachers for help when I needed. I believed that I should get a good education no matter where I came from. I worked really hard to overcome the language barrier. I can gladly say that I succeeded. These authors such as Graff, Dutton, Villanueva and Evans all believed in education. Their styles of writing were different but yet similar. I could relate to a lot of what they were saying. One should always remember where they came from. The power of language is important. Being different doesn’t hurt you, it helps you. Maybe reading and writing is not for everyone but there’s always a way.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
