him as an example as to how true Christians should act when under similar circumstances. The author’s view on the body is that it is merely a vessel by which people are tied down to worldly things, but in order to be made acceptable to God, one must be free of those things. By enduring the momentary torture of this world, and presenting one’s self to God like Polycarp did when he was “bound like a noble ram chosen for an oblation from a great flock, a holocaust prepared and made acceptable to God”, one can enjoy “…the resurrection unto eternal life of both the soul and the body in the immortality of the Holy Spirit” ( MartPol. 14 ). In a sense, the author is saying the physical embodiment of humans is only necessary for the process of giving up that embodiment as the ultimate sacrifice to God. It is only through this process of self-sacrifice and giving up worldly, physical attachments such as the body, that one can become sanctified and receive the glory of “… our Lord Jesus Christ, the saviour of our souls, the pilot of our bodies” ( MartPol. 19 ).

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
