I was old enough to know what being adopted meant, but it didn't make me think about Katie any differently. The mom I knew was still her mom, not some woman in another country. She went to visit her aunts and uncles and cousins in New Hampshire and I knew they were still her family. It wasn't a topic I ever brought up, not because I felt uncomfortable, but because I didn't think it was important. I knew who her family was. I didn't have to ask. Katie and I did not remain close friends. We still see each other from time to time and I know she is enjoying her time at college. She went abroad last semester to London and loved it. She also just got accepted into Teach For America. She is successful and happy and not at all “damaged” because her family is different. I believe everyone's family is different. Some people have stepparents or one parent. Some people live with their aunt and uncle or with a grandparent. Some people have five siblings and some are an only child. Some people are adopted. No two families look the same. That does not make one better or worse. It just makes them different.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
