he fully agreed with them in their teaching that salvation was by grace through faith and not by works. Both Paul and James speak about justification, but there is a slight difference in their meanings. Paul speak about the work that Jesus did on the and therefore a sinner can be declared righteous. James on the other hand, speaks of the works that saved people do to prove that they have real faith. We can conclude this comparison as follow: “We are justified by faith alone (Paul’s teaching). The faith that justifies us is not alone; it must be accompanied by good works (James’ teaching). Faith alone saves but the faith that saves is not alone!”, (Justification by Faith and Justification by Works: n.p.) . 1.3.3. Aspects of daily living affected by faith Throughout the book of James it is visible that he wants to teach that the behaviour of believers must be in line with God’s will through faith. The major theme of this book is "living by faith". As the people are “suffering under economical, legal and even violent persecution. “, (Stulac:1993) , James gives clear instructions about true faith in normal daily life and how believers should act. He concludes this message with 3 things they must do in light of their faith, Stulac (1993:n.p.) . Firstly, James tells them not to swear, but simply to let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no. According to Stulac (1993:n.p.) , it can be intended to promote “honesty speech”. The meaning and practice of faith connects to the issue of the letter, since it is obvious that through deeds. James try to persuade his followers not to swear for the mere fact that it shows unbelief by trying to manipulate oaths made, since he is emphasising on true living faith that is visible. Secondly, James tells the intended readers that they should pray instead, but he also tells them how, when and why they should pray in times of difficulties. For James true unbelief or true faith is expressed through prayer and oaths, Stulac (1993:n.p.) . 6

The Bible instructs us to pray in times of happiness and to sing songs of praise. But also to pray in times of sickness for it makes you feel weak and in turn hopeless. “The habit of prayer should be, and indeed is, one of the most obvious features which differentiates a Christian from other people” (Tasker 1983:126). This is exactly what James wanted them to grasp. The next thing James teaches is how to pray, he instructs them to call upon the elders to pray with them for the sick, because they are represent the unity of the church. And also to pray in the name of the Lord, for it represents unit in Christ. But, he also tells them to pray in faith, with absolute no doubt. Also James mentions that the believers should repent their sins to each other, as to be effective prayer.
