Analysis of the Historical Contributions of Elijah Muhammad Elijah Muhammand significantly contributed to the civil rights movement by promoting Malcom X. Malcom X was a part of the Black Panther party, which was founded in Oakland California in 1966. The parties purpose was to patrol Black neighborhoods to protect residents from acts of police brutality. Elijah Muhammand had a newspaper and included a section of Malcom X’s teachings. Also, during the same time Blacks were being discriminated against Muslims were too. After Malcom X was assassinated, the New York Mosque was bombed and this was just the start of all of the misfortune he will encounter. Because of Mr. Muhammads efforts to spread the word of the teachings he was taught, by the mid sixties his movement grew to more than sixty cities and even some outside of the United States. In 1972, Elijah Muhammad opened a two million dollar mosque and school in Chicago and continued to preach financial independence for black Americans. The bitter irony is that soon after providing the Nation of Islam with its most famous convert, Malcolm X became disillusioned with the movement. A trip to Mecca exposed him to white Muslims, shattering his belief that whites were inherently evil.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
