The role of DoH was described by a Brazilian forum in 2000 in these words " Even though the Declaration of Helsinki is the responsibility of the World Medical Association, the document should be considered the property of all humanity " (Human and Fluss 2001). Basic principles The basic principle of DoH is respect for the individual, their right to self determination and the right to make informed decisions regarding participation in research, both initially and during the course of the research [ Levine, RJ 2000 ]. The investigator's duty is solely to the patient or volunteer, and while there is always a need for research, the subject's welfare must always take precedence over the interests of science and society, and ethical considerations must always take precedence over laws and regulations. When the research participant is physically or mentally incapable of giving consent, incompetent, or is a minor, then surrogate consent given by an individual acting in the subject's best interest can be considered [Nicholson, RH; Crawley, FP, 1999]. Operational Principles Research should be based on prior knowledge of the scientific background. The risks and benefits should be carefully assessed and it should benefit to the population being studied.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
