The FDA is also a regulatory agency at the federal level. It functions to regulate the quality of food and drugs as well as alternative medicines. The FDA provides information on alternative therapies and their safeness and effectiveness to patients who are inclined to take the alternative route. (US Food and Drug Administration, 2018) 1. The largest influence that CMS has on my practice is in charting. I take greater care in charting completely and thoroughly to increase reimbursement for my services. This encourages me to focus on increasing the quality of the care I provide by frequently checking the newest standard of care to insure I am following them. I use the FDA as a tool in my practice to educate interested patients in alternatives to medically recommended treatments. I utilize the FDA

I feel that with proper research my patients can make and educated decision on their care including any alternative treatments they may choose to peruse. E. The Nurse Practice Act is the statue that regulates what is required to practice nursing. The Nurse Practice Act dictates everything from what the requirements for licensure are necessary to the implementation of discipline for nurses. (Nurse Practice Act. PDF, 2017) The Nurse Practice Act influence my practice by ensuring that I am qualified and properly licensed to provide quality care to my patients and keep them safe from harm. 1. The Scope of practice for my license in Colorado includes: “Evaluating health status through the collection and assessment of health data, health teaching and health counseling, providing therapy and treatment that is supportive and restorative to life and well-being either directly to the patient or indirectly through consultation with, delegation to, supervision of, or teaching of others, executing delegated medical functions, referring to medical or community agencies those patients who need further evaluation or treatment, and reviewing and monitoring therapy and treatment plans.” (Nurse Practice Act. PDF, 2017, p. 4) 2. When referring to delegation, the Nurse Practice Act states that it is the RN’s responsibility to ensure that task being delegated are within the education level and demonstrated abilities of the person being delegated to.
