What is known about the past and how it is interpreted in the present often influence views on politics, religion, and national identity. When bringing their work to the public, historians must do so responsibly. In other words, recognizing their social responsibilities is an important part of the historian’s code of ethics. With this in mind, students wishing to earn up to 10 extra credit points on Exam #3 should complete the following short reading exercise. Be prepared to answer a few questions about it on the exam. Extra Credit Reading Exercise Access the Statement on Standards of Professional Conduct at the American Historical Association website. Read the sections titled Shared Values of Historians and History in the Public Realm . o Social Responsibility Quiz This quiz is composed of five (5) multiple choice and true/false questions worth two (2) extra credit points each on the topic of Social Responsibility.
