5.Does emotional intelligence compliment other leadership styles other than transformational leadership?
EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND LEADERSHIP7If in fact there are distinct associations between emotional intelligence and transformational leadership, then this research may be profound in the creation of trainingand development modules and courses that can enhance an organizations overall success and performance.Method of Research OverviewIt has commonly been assumed that the best way to measure a candidate for EI is to assess them through a specified EI tool to measure their level of emotional intelligence. There are many assessment tools available to measure emotional intelligence. These tools vary depending on approach and perspectives held by the researcher in general (Mayer, Caruso, & Salovey, 2000b). In efforts to get the best outcomes from various perspectives, it will be best that this research be completed from a quantitative approach. A quantitative study will allow fora more comprehensive review of the research questions assessed and will provide a diverse understanding of the relationship between emotional intelligence of leaders and how the leader’s emotional intelligence influences or hinders their followers. Research DesignThe planned research design for this doctoral study will be a qualitative study. Since qualitative research regards interviews, this research will rely heavily on interviewing several leaders in various industries with multiple years of experience. Leaders as well as employees will participate in the interviews as well as survey responses. While interviewing will be the main approach to gathering results, it will also be imperative to study the organization andthe functionality of the work. Seeing how day to day operations will help understand the responses of the employees and the leaders.
EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND LEADERSHIP8ApproachThe researcher in this study will be conducting a qualitative approach to gain insight in this research. Often it comes across as the “easy way” to approach research, when in fact, it is not. The challenge is being honored for this approach simply because it isthe better suited option to gain insight as well as empirical data that is relevant to the topic of study. According to Eriksson & Kovalainen, (2008) “Qualitative interviews, as used in scholarly research, are research vehicles, the purpose of which is to produce empirical materials for the study in question.” (p. 3)Since there are five specific questions in which is hoped to gain answers from this research, it will be in the best interest of this study to analyze information from individuals that can provide specific details that might give relevance to the data collected. Interviews will serve a much better purpose than numerical data since my research will involve emotions, which cannot be measured numerically. Additionally, there are EI test measurement tools that will be asked of the interviewees to take prior to interviewing them in order to ensure their test scores match their responses. This will be an important gage for
