unemployment in St. Kitts and Nevis. With a ranking of 1st place Discrimination with 50% of
the responses being affirmative as to why youths are not employed in St. Kitts and Nevis.
Respondents indicated that they saw that political affiliations were the main reason rather than
cultural barriers being the main reason why the youth are left jobless. 20% of the respondents
indicated that it is hard for youths to get a job because of their age thus giving them second
position in the list of causes. If you don't know someone bet your life it would be hard for you to
get a
job in St. Kitts and Nevis, hence research found that 17% of the respondents agreed to such
statement. No work experience/skills and education tied for fourth position with 7%.

It is safe to say that majority of the respondents were those one may considered "youthful."
Questionnaire responses stated that these individuals have been looking for jobs over a year span
and majority of the respondents blamed discrimination, i.e, policitcal affiliations as to why they
are unsuccessful in finding a job. It is real unfortunate in small Federation that politics have cost
the youth of being able to be independent. We have always heard the saying " Youths are the
future" , in St. Kitts and Nevis how will this quote prevail when persons are being objected for
work because of their age? It is quite understandable that with age comes wisdom but the youths
