point that advancement opportunities will become available to me. Additionally, Edward E. Lawler examines work performance in his book, High-Involvement Management. Participative Strategies for Improving Organizational Performance , as he states, “ Performance in the workplace should be constantly improving, as each level reached should provoke the need to reach an even higher level” (Lawler). As Lawler has described, I have performed well and made small advances in the workplace but now feel challenged to reach new levels of performance.

Thompson 4 Desired Outcome Over the course of the semester, I plan on improving my work performance with dedication and initiative to the point that I am able to move into a greater leadership role and ideally become a head lifeguard/instructor with the City of Kitchener. Specific Strategy The specific steps I will take to achieve my goal are to take initiative with tasks around the pool such as arriving early, setting up, doing pool tests, etc. I will prepare detailed lesson plans that will allow my lessons to be streamlined and effective. I will recertify the qualifications needed to work as a head guard, and finally I will submit my application to be a head guard to the aquatics director. My success will be measured by performance reviews conducted at the beginning as march as well as whether or not my application to become a head guard is accepted by the aquatics director. This is an attainable goal as I have been employed at the pool for four years and have performed well over that time, reaching the requirement to submit a head guard application. It is relevant due to the fact that I already work there and will be advancing within the organization. The timeline of this goal with ideally be completed mid to late march, with the application process taking several weeks, this will allow time to demonstrate improved workplace performance, submit an application, and have the process completed. Implementation of Strategy Over the course of the last few months, I have pushed myself to go above and beyond in the workplace to accomplish my goal of becoming a head guard. At the midway point, during the intersession performance reviews, the aquatic director commended me on the quality of my work recently and I presented the idea of becoming a head guard. The director agreed I would be a good fit as a leader and would begin the application process. The process took longer than

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
