Darwinism and American Society; Week 2

Fundamentalist christians strongly opposed darwinism

This preview shows 2 out of 3 pages.

Fundamentalist Christians strongly opposed Darwinism and what it stood for. They saw it as an attack against everything the Bible said about creation and how humans came to be. Most politicians were Christians or a form of Christianity, therefore certain laws were passed to help reduce the spread of the Darwinism. Some states prevented the teachings of anything other than Christianity in schools (Wood, C. 2012). The wanted their children and the next generation to disregard Darwinism and what it stood for and stick to the Bible and their religion. Darwinism in America changed the laws and policies set in place as well as the way people saw other races and immigrants. It also changed the experience and daily lives of the immigrants that came to America looking for better opportunities. The Christians also had very strong beliefs about the theory and what it represented. Darwinism played a big role in America during the early 1900s and affected many people within it.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
