premium account referred to as Amazon Prime (Robischon, 2017). This upgrade gives the consumer benefits such as free same day or one-day shipping, early access to deals, and access toAmazon Video – included through a monthly payment or yearly subscription. Some of the more interesting talks around Amazon in recent years have been their delivery services. Since launching in 1994, they have continuously built various centers around the globe, most predominant in the USA, in an attempt to shorten delivery times. In some states, Amazon has begun to launch one-hour delivery services for select products. For over a year, theyhave been in a battle with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), where they are looking to obtain approval for the use of delivery drones (Robischon, 2017). Bezos believes that the use of delivery drones can eventually cut delivery times down to under 30 minutes. One thing that Bezos has not been able to avoid for years is the talk of eventually opening physical Amazon stores. Although Bezos has never shot down the idea, he has made it clear that he would has his own particular idea for the type of stores he wants. This rumour became a reality when Bezos opened his first AmazonBooks store within the Seattle University campus. AmazonBooks veeredtowards a very different layout compared to most existing bookstores. They specialized in only selling books with at least a 4.6 out of 5 rating and displaying recommendations for related books on every shelf. As a result, the AmazonBooks store has been very successful and praised by the consumers. Bezos aims to open another five AmazonBooks by the end of 2017 5

(Robischon, 2017). The corporation has three other known concept stores that are planned to open up, one of which being the convenience and grocery store AmazonGo (Robischon, 2017). The first pilot of this concept has already been opened up in Seattle. Now, only Amazon employees may shop there but the goal for the corporation is to have the AmazonGo open by early next year (Robischon, 2017). The unique feature of this store is that it does not have any checkout lines or cashiers. The idea is that customers will be able to walk in, grab what is neededand walk out – avoiding the prolonged process of paying. An application on the consumers’ smartphone will accumulate an inventory of the products taken from the shelves and out of the store, creating a bill to be sent and later paid by the customer’s linked banking information (Robischon, 2017). Many believe that Amazon will attempt to implement this concept in select Whole Foods stores as a trial and pilot with the public. In 1994, ‘Cadabra’ was a small; start-up online retailer. Today Amazon is the undisputed as the largest online retailer in the world. A major reason for Amazon’s success is the maintenance of their start-up mentality and ongoing focus on innovation and adaptation.
