However, when I arrived in United States I discovered that all of these expectations were wrong or we can say most of them. I discovered many surprising things about the life here. The most important thing that really surprised me is how the people here deal with each other. They respect each other and help each other. There are no differences between the people. All of them are equal. I saw young man who tried to help old woman to carry her luggage. I saw black man who married a white woman. I saw how the police man respects people. Also, I found many Muslims and many mosques, so all the people her can practice what religion they like. There are many different cultures, which we have to respect. The women and men are equal here. There is not difference between them. After living In America for long time, I discovered some expectations Americans had of my culture and me. Some of them think that Saudis are stupid and don’t like to study. Others think my country doesn’t have a good education like America has. The others think that we have a lot of money and all the people in my country are rich, so there are not poor people there. Because my country is the biggest country producers oil, they think that all the people there can have free gas for their cars. Others think that all the Muslims are bad people and many of them are killers who try to kill any non-Muslim. The others think that 2

Farie there are no rights for women in my country, so our culture doesn’t allow women to work or have high education. As a result all these negative stereotypes have had a negative impact on my life in America. For example, I have seen people be unfriendly and avoid getting to know me or any Saudis students. However, my life in United States still gives chance for me to get a good education besides trying to change these negative stereotypes. (Part 2) The Impact of Social Identity on American in United State of America Social identity affected the lives of people in America in the past and we can see this effect until these day. The most important of these social identities that we see in the United States of America are the differences between of race, class and some time gender. From the history of America from the past to now, we can see big changes over time between the people in their lives. These changes went a long way to achieving equality between everyone in the United States. In the past, there was a big difference between the black people and white people. There was difference between men and women. However, all that changes over time. In the past all the black people were slaves but that changed in 1865 was when all the slaves officially became free. However, that created a problem in that time. What will government do with all these free people? They tried to make them live without rights, so they cannot vote and cannot have land to work. They could work but for someone else. They were free but it was not legally defined, so they were not truly equal.
