Daniel also brought a team of IDF psychologists to have a brainstorming session about the evacuation and to pitch different ideas and scenarios of hypothetical situations the soldiers might encounter (Laufer, 2012, p.153). Additionally, based on Daniel’s personality type he and his group of psychologists analyzed each situation which also included workshops on how to evacuate women, children, and violent situations. Yaron displayed characteristics of having a melancholic personality/thinking-feeling, one who prefers order, sticks to family traditions, enjoys contributing to society, and make decisions based on how it will affect others (Kloppenborg, Shriberg, & Venkatraman, 2003, p. 29). Yaron was most concerned about the settler’s safety and an easy transition from the land they had grown accustomed to. He wanted the mission to be completed efficiently but was also sympathetic to the society of people that occupied the land. Yaron also displayed a traditional leadership when choosing the squad leaders to allow their example and guidance to trickle down to the soldiers in their command. The battalion also participated in dinners where they shared different experiences over a casual setting resembling a family atmosphere, which gave the soldiers an opportunity to bond.

A PEACEFUL EVACUATION 7 Daniel and Yaron were both great leaders with their own unique styles of handling the complex evacuation mission. Daniel’s concern was the soldiers’ emotional wellbeing and health. Yaron was focused on the efficient yet sensitive way to handle the settlers from the Gaza Strip. Both leaders had a clear plan on how to handle and prepare their soldiers to enter unknown territory. Daniel used research to assist his direction and Yaron used experience. Ultimately, both styles of leadership worked in the completion of successful missions for the IDF and the evacuees to relinquish their land with dignity and respect.
