After operating under the first by-laws it was found necessary to view the said by-laws including the name of the Sacco Society which as being confused with that of the Mugama Co-operate Union. Thus on 20/2/1997 the Registrar of Co-operatives the revised by-laws and consequently the name of the Sacco changed to ‘MURATA FARMERS SACCO SOCIETY LIMITED.’ During the Sacco’s 8 th Annual General Meetings (AGM) on 28 th April 20o06 a special solution was passed unanimously to amend the Sacco by-law number one, which changed the name to MURATA SACCO SOCIETY LIMITED. This was done to give the SACCO total autonomy to
deal with all sectors of business. The SACCO is now committed to serve and allow customers from all sectors of business. 1.2STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM According to Rwabuthuga (2007) many primary co-operative society experience various difficulties. Sometimes they are small thus lack business experience. For a long time they have been the main force in provision of micro-finance services, that led to the transformation of rural and urban economies in both agricultural and non-agricultural sectors. They have applied the integrated approach that has enhanced social intermediation and productivity of poor. Therefore, they are supposed to play a crucial role in development of products. Training is the main source of difficulties. None trained employees make the Sacco’s encounter losses during training. Sometimes the government tends to high taxes from the Sacco’s leading to losses. Due to lack of equipment in the Sacco, new technology and information given is limited. In some cases the organization is not well structured and so decision making is very low. The concept of product development is one of the most important practice in which every organization which is used to ensure that there is effective service delivery. The aim of this study therefore will be to analyses the factors affecting product development in saving and co- operative society in Kenya. 1.3OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY 1.3.1 General objectives The general objective of the study was to analyze factors affecting product development in saving and co-operative societies. 1.3.2 Specific objectives i. To find out how training affects product development in Sacco’s. ii. To show how organization structure affects product development in Sacco’s. iii. To find out how organization policies affects product development in Sacco’s. iv. To examine how technology affects product development in Sacco’s.
