Thought body did not smell like death and saw blood around the mouth Village people staked the dead body and fresh blood came out of orifices and then they set body on fire oStory spreads and in 1726 a former Serbian soldier Arnold Paole claimed he met a vampire but tried to stop from becoming a vampire by drinking its blood and eating its grave mud He tried to stop the curse but people still thought he would become one He then fell of a car and had an unclean death He reappears in the village days later and drinks cattle blood 40 days after his death they dig him up: No proper decay and blood everywhere He let out an audible groan when staked and then they burned his corpse He had 13 victims so far including an 8 day old baby oPaole’s story was told in Western newspapers(like in Austria) Vampire first enters the western language in 1732 and officially in English language in 1734 By 1732-1733 there was an officially full blown vampire epidemic oEastern church didn’t believe in vampires so they couldn’t allow it but they also couldn’t condemn it because they would look like they were on the side of the vampires Church doesn’t believe you can be brought back from the death except by god/Christ Western church sends investigators to the east oAntoineCalmet(1672-1757) Benedictan monk with no science/medical background 
