emotional intelligence, include self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, social skills and motivation (Kanesan & Fauzan, 2019). However, is emotional intelligence the most important factor for success in work place? As mentioned above, the term ‘emotional intelligence’ reached its fame after Goleman published a book about emotional intelligence (Bar-On, 2010). Goleman (1995) claimed that after the publication, emotional intelligence was widely acknowledged and practised in the work place. He also believed that 80% of success at work is determined by emotional intelligence and the rest by ordinary intelligence (Goleman, 1995). Based on Colfax, Rivera and Perez (2010), 500,000 people were tested with an emotional intelligence indicator, known as Emotional Intelligence Appraisal Test. Their findings suggests that Emotional Intelligence accounts for 58% of their performance in all kinds of jobs. The article also claimed that Emotional intelligence is the sole biggest predictor of performance in the work place. Furthermore, they also claimed that emotional intelligence is the strongest driver of leadership and personal excellence (Colfax, Rivera & Perez, 2010). As a result, Cooper (1997) suggested:

“Individuals can enjoy a successful career and better relationships by relying on their emotional intelligence. Studies have shown that people with high levels of emotional intelligence have greater career success, foster stronger personal relations, have effective leadership skills and are healthier than those with low emotional quotient (EQ). Happiness was considered as a key conative. It has a positive impact on emotional intelligence (Bharwaney, Bar-On & MacKinley, 2011). In other words, happiness boost one’s motivation level. In addition to conative, happiness is also act as pressure indicator as well. As a result, it controls individual’s willingness to cope with their daily’s life demand, pressure and challenges through their happiness level (Bar-On, 2010).
