Section 4. Other information about assessment and student support 4.1 Submission and return of assessment The ability to adhere to deadlines is a highly desirable attribute that employers seek in our graduates. Right from the beginning, new students should acquire the habit of meeting deadlines for their work, by organising their study time appropriately. The following points apply to the submission of assessment 1. Extensions will ONLY be granted in cases of illness or where documented personal issues seriously interfere with a student being able to complete the assignment (medical certificate / counsellor’s statement required) . It is at the discretion of the subject co-ordinator / lecturer as to whether extensions will be granted for inescapable, unexpected, documented work commitments (provide documentation). You should contact your lecturer before the due date if you are likely to require an extension. 2. Where no prior extension has been approved, late submissions will incur a penalty of 5% per day or part thereof. Assessment tasks will generally not be graded when submitted 14 days or more past the due date. 3. Short Essay should be submitted electronically via Safe Assignment by the due date and time [as specified on page 8] . 4. Group Wiki Assignment needs to be completed within the group’s designated Wiki Site on Learn JCU by the assignment due date and time [as specified on page 9 ]. Access to the Wiki sites will be terminated at this time and as such it is essential that your Wiki is in its completed state at the specified cut off time. There is no need for you to submit a hard copy of the Wiki assignment as it will be marked in its electronic format. Given the amount of time available in which to complete the Wiki Assignment and the fact that it is a group based assignment it is only in extremely exceptional situations that extensions are granted for this piece of assessment. 5. Return of Assessment Items - Every attempt will be made to have all assessment pieces marked, graded and returned within three weeks of their submission date [dependant on the lecturer’s workload commitments at the time and the availability of marking assistants in those instances in which marking assistance is utilised]. 4.2 Plagiarism and referencing Plagiarism occurs when writers claim ownership of written words or ideas that are not their own. Plagiarism is a form of cheating and any instances of plagiarism will be dealt with promptly according to University procedures. Please see the JCU Student Academic Misconduct Requirements Policy Also see the definition of self plagiarism in the JCU Learning, Teaching and Assessment Policy and note policy statement 5.9 in regard to submission of one’s own work that has been previously submitted for assessment and received a grade Referencing is a systematic way of acknowledging the sources that you have used. As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
