stratification will occur. Blauner believes that minority groups created by colonization will experience more intense prejudice, racism, and discrimination than those created by immigration. Mrydal’s hypothesis states that prejudice is perpetuated through time by a vicious cycle of prejudice. Noel’s theory explains that the contact situation for Native Americans was in 1607 between them and the settlers of the Jamestown colony. The contact situation for African Americans was in1619 when the Dutch ships took the first slaves over to what would later be the United States. The first contact situation for the Mexican Nationalists and white ethnics was in 1820, while Mexico was still in control of Texas. Each contact situation was created by white ethnics going into a land that wasn’t theirs to begin with. The contact situations are related to discrimination of women and how it first started. An example of discrimination against women in the field of sports was during WWII. There was a women's professional baseball league during World War II, when most professional male players were serving in the armed forces. With the entry of the United States into World War II , several major league baseball executives started a new professional league with women players in order to maintain baseball in the public eye while the majority of able men were away . The founders included Philip K. Wrigley , Branch Rickey and Paul V. Harper . They feared that Major League Baseball might even temporarily cease due to the war because of the loss of talent, as well as restrictions on team travel due to gasoline rationing. Women were not treated equal to the men that played baseball. The players were forced to wear dresses when they played because it made the male audience feel like it was something to watch. Another way women weren’t treated the same as their male counterparts is due to the fact that the league owners made accommodations to the field of play which made the female athletes play at shorter distances than the those of male baseball players.
