Again, you can see a deeper exploration of the “People” of the topic, which one has the ability to do utilizing this template. It really gets down to the “nitty, gritty” of the individuals and their positions, for or against. You decide, what are the important people related to your topic? How will you explain their involvement with your topic? PERIOD: Include a significant date(s), period or timeframe that will add understanding to this subject or concept. Provide a brief explanation for each one. With this element you want to focus in on the period of time or a specific timeframe to help your reader understand your topic. This period of time can occur over several years. For example, when it was first discussed, the periods of time involved with perhaps the implementation of a regulation or law, etc. They are not an excessive number of dates and are not merely copied and pasted from a source. Rather this should be your own analysis of those important dates that you believe are important for the reader to know to effectively understand the topic. Remember that the final critical analysis is an analysis of all of the information you've been researching. So, again, do not merely copy and paste a lot of information from a source here, just use the most notable ones and it is dependent upon the complexity of your topic on how many to use to give the reader the timeframe to understand your topic. So using the topic of “The Impact of Antitrust on Business” we would approach this first element (using Template 1) like this: PERIOD: 1890 – Sherman Antitrust Act; considered the foundation of U.S. antitrust regulation 1914 – Clayton Antitrust Act; clarified ambiguities and uncertainties of Sherman Antitrust Act and prohibits unfair practices 1914 – Federal Trade Commission Act; established the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) as enforcement agency and prohibited unfair competition 1936 – Robinson-Patman Act; amended the Clayton Antitrust Act and prohibited anticompetitive practices in price discrimination 1950 – Celler-Kefauver Antimerger Act; reformed and strengthened Clayton Antitrust Act by preventing certain types of asset acquisitions and mergers that limit competition 1976 – Congress published the Antitrust Improvements Act to strengthen government’s enforcement of antitrust laws 2004 – Antitrust Criminal Penalty Enhancement and Reform Act; increased maximum criminal penalty (Freyer, 1992)

Notice that each time element is explained. This ensures that the reader is clear on what each time period means and the importance attached to it.
