CONSULTATIVE CHANGEThe Characteristics of this OrganizationCurrent Strengths- Baptist Health is a nonprofit hospital that provides medical careto the people and students. It is non-profit-making hospital, meaning that its interest is notmaking a profit, but offering services. It is supported by the federal government and the stategovernment ensuring that it does not run out of funds to provide the services (Denker et al.2015). The organization provides assistance to people by being a reputable medical institutionin the community. The hospital is approved by the Joint Commission. The hospital isprivately owned. The hospital has a large impact on the community with a reputation ofoffering quality care to its patients. According to HCAHPS scores, 76% of patients said theywould definitely recommend this hospital to someone else, compared to 70% in Arkansas and72% nationally. Current Weaknesses– While comparing HCAHPS scores there were several areasfor opportunity. When asked if their rooms and bathrooms were always clean only 70% feltthat compared to state and national averages of about 75%. Another was that only 60% ofpeople felt that staff "Always" explained about medicines before giving it to them, comparedto the state average of 68%. Many weaknesses in the hospital can be solved with appropriatecommunication and adequate teaching for patients and their families. Current Evidence-Based Practice Activities– The hospital excels in staying up todate with the current policies and procedures according to the national standards. One projectrecently initiated is a heart healthy screening where multiple tests are performed in order toassess the patient’s risk for heart disease. It looks at various risk factors of heart disease andhelps to catch any concerns before a problem arises. Another important policy the hospitalinitiates requires patients to be seen by a physician within seven days of discharge. Thehospital is currently in the pilot of a program the electronically transmits patient bloodpressures to their physicians to keep a better track on high risk patients. 8
CONSULTATIVE CHANGECurrent Quality Improvement Projects- Hospital acquired infections (HAIs) isalways in the forefront at medical facilities. Guidelines have been put in place that strictlydictate what patients qualify for urinary catheters and how long they can stay in place.Another initiative that has been added is the use of bactroban swabbed into each nostrilbefore any invasive procedure.Recommendation for Organization ChangeBaptist Health is not a perfect institution, and hence there are some areas where itneeds to improve to provide quality services to patients. We are going to look at therecommendation for the change (Zingg et al. 2015), as well as the rationales and the measuresto be taken to ensure there is effective implementation of the recommendations made.
