improvisations. Jazz music has always been regarded, as somewhat of a high art, a genre, which appeals mainly to intellects. Today many of the traditions of jazz music are carried Unfortunately the term “jamband” has come to carry negative connotations. There are many explanations for this. Jamming is often thought of something a group of high schoolers will do in there parents garage, not what professional musicians should be doing in front of crowds of thousands. As well the fanbase of jambands have, since the days of the Grateful Dead, been notorious for their experimentalism with psychedelics and other mind-altering drugs. People on the outside often see drugs as a prerequisite for enjoying such music. Critics will often suggest that one must be in an altered state to enjoy such abstraction. IT is because of this that their tastes have lacked somewhat in credibility. However I believe that to be successful in this contemporary world of experimental live music (i.e. jambands) it demands much more from the musicians performing. Jambands are direct descendants from Jazz groups, so much of their
