Even the textbook states that more research is finding that “however, … BSN-prepared graduates give care that is evidence-based and improves patient outcomes” (Friberg & Creasia, 2016, p. 13). The extra years in school provide the students with a better and more diverse critical thinking training that ADN students don’t get to experience. Since BSN nurses are in school for longer, they have a more complete understanding of the nursing theories and greater knowledge of evidence based practices. Due to these factors, the nation’s Magnet hospitals, which are recognized for their excellence in nursing and better patient outcomes, require all the nurse managers and leaders to have a Bachelor’s degree or higher. Also hospitals applying for Magnet status must show that they have plans in place to insure that 80 % of their RN workforce have a bachelor’s degree or higher (Rosseter, 2015, p. 4).
